Our Mission

Welcome.  The Gateway Pastel Artists' goal aims to unite artists interested in the pastel media through programs, critiques, workshops and technical support. The organization helps members reach their optimum potential as artists.  We create awareness of pastels' beauty, versatility and permanence in art galleries and the general public.

Membership is open to anyone working in pastel or interested in the medium.

The Gateway Pastel Artists is affiliated with the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS) whose objective is “to celebrate worldwide, the expanding presence of Dry Pastel as a major fine art painting medium,” and to “provide a strong voice for pastel artists and the luminous medium of "Pastel".” IAPS is a non-profit organization representing pastel societies uniting in a common cause — to demonstrate the validity and quality of pastel fine art around the world.

Next GPA Meeting is Monday, January 9, 2012

Our first program of the year will be Mary Ellen Shortland, Owner of Creative Art Gallery and Framing.  She will discuss framing techniques for pastels and show us a few ideas on how framing and matting can make your art look better and more eycatching. Perhaps we can get her to tell us a little bit about what her art patrons want in new art for their walls.

Have you found the time to create a few paintings over the holidays?  Bring a painting to the meeting to show off and talk about.
