WELCOME:  Juliette Travous
Currently her website is down but will be up and running soon.

Juliette Travous has been painting for last 30 yrs. She is best known for her colorful Sunset/Sunrise and Cloud paintings
She said she takes tons of reference materials and finds that best colorful sunsets are in the fall.
Her paintings are usually rather large - approx. 40 x 28

She prefers to work on Sennelier La Carte Pastel Paper. And Unison and Jack Richardson Pastels.
Juliette is mainly self-taught and loves working on dramatic skies. She always works from her own photos because it is only way she can impart the feelings and colors. As we all know the photo reference fall short of capturing the colors and vibrancy.

She uses dark reds and blues as her base layer. She uses the Dark Unison set and Blue Grays gives a feeling of depth. She works in circular strokes and the rolling clouds using her fingers to blend. She does much blending and tries to use one different finger for each color.
Juliette also is mindful to wipe of tips of her pastels so she is not muddying up the painting and dragging the wrong color through the blending she has just done. As the clouds get closer to the horizon she used dash like strokes.

Juliette also warns people to use a Help Filter and to run the whole time. 30 yrs. of pastel dust is no joke. You can pick up a Hepa Filter at Target for around $25.00. Many of us were not aware that they were so in-expense and will be getting one right away! Thank you for this tip!

Once she has established shapes and cloud placement she will be mindful of the brilliant light or highlight colors and will place in as a highlight contrast to see where she is at with the painting.

Juliette will send us a photo of her finished piece.
We are excited to see it.
