About Lisa Ober
Lisa Ober is a professional portrait artist specializing in pastel and oil portraits. She is most known for her ability to depict the likeness and personality of her subjects with a finely executed attention to detail and a fondness for realism. A native of St. Louis, Lisa was inspired by her grandmother, a self-taught portrait artist, to become an artist as well. For as long as she can recall, Lisa wanted to be an artist. Even as a small child she would draw people and animals, always looking at facial expression…especially in the eyes. “It’s in the eyes that the true distinction between us can be found. The eyes convey spirit and personality. Get the eyes right and you’re 90% there,” says Lisa.
Lisa began painting portraits professionally in 1983 while working on her BFA in Graphic Design and Illustration at Washington University. Initially, she intended to pursue a career in commercial illustration, but by 1987 her growing list of clients coupled with her enthusiasm for painting people led her to take a leap of faith and pursue a full-time career as a portrait artist instead. She has since enjoyed consistent private and corporate commissions including paintings of major league sports figures, noted religious figures, United States Supreme Court Justices, corporate executives, government officials, and private individuals. She has also illustrated several books and has a passion for still life painting. Lisa co-owns Ober Anderson Gallery in Clayton, Missouri which exhibits her portrait and still life work along with three other permanent resident artists. Over 1000 of Lisa’s works reside in private and institutional collections across the U.S. and abroad. |
